Showcase Application intake occurred from July 1 – August 19, 2022
SHOWCASE APPLICATIONS:
To apply to Showcase at Pacific Contact 2023 artists must complete all parts of the I Want To Showcase Application (please put N/A if a question does not apply). Applications open on July 1 and the deadline to submit is August 19, 5pm PST.
Applying to showcase requires an availability to tour British Columbia in either the 2023-24 season or the 2024-25 season. Artists should be prepared to showcase the performance that was stated in the application. Any changes must be requested in writing and will be reviewed by our selection committee for approval. Support materials must be submitted and must be of the highest quality possible.
SHOWCASE INFORMATION:
At Pacific Contact 2023 there will be approximately 35 showcases. Showcases are 15 minutes long and receive technical and production support. This year there will be Mainstage Music, showcases, as well as Family and Outdoor Arts Showcases.
- Mainstage Showcases – There will be approximately 16 Mainstage Showcases. These will be a variety of genres including Music, Dance, Theatre and Variety and will be presented on stage in the Anvil Centre theatre.
- Family Showcases – There will be approximately 6 Family Showcases. These are primarily performance aimed at families and young audiences and can be in any genre: theatre, dance, music and variety.
- Outdoor Showcases – There will be approximately 9 Outdoor Showcases. This will feature a global music stage and a dance stage featuring performances created for outdoor and alternative settings such as downtowns, parks and waterfronts.
- Gala Awards Dinner – There will be 2 Music Mainstage Showcases at the Gala Awards Dinner presented onstage in the ballroom at the Anvil Centre.
SHOWCASE SELECTION PROCESS:
A showcase selection committee made up of presenters, artists and performing arts professionals reviews all showcase applications. The showcase selection committee will make their choices based on clear criteria including: artistic merit, professionalism, equity, diversity, inclusion, feasibility, tourability, marketability and engagement. The final selections will be reviewed and adjusted based on genre diversity, regional representation, and gender equity. To read more about the Selection Criteria click here.
No formal feedback will be provided however, informal inquiries, if you are not selected to showcase, are permitted. All artists must provide appropriate and readily available support materials to apply (video of live performances, photos, biographies, technical requirements, and stage plots.)
SHOWCASE PROVISIONS:
BC Touring Council will supply basic technical support and equipment including lighting, sound system and microphones for showcases. Any special requirements should be clearly identified in your showcase application and will be responsibility of showcase artist/group.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
A $50 non-refundable showcase application fee is due at time of showcase application and this year, for the first time, this fee will also cover self representing artists BCTC membership fee.
If selected to showcase artists will need to register and pay to attend Pacific Contact for at least the day of their showcase, April 12-15, 2023.
All showcase artists must be available to perform in New Westminster on April 13, 14, 15, 2023. Showcase participants must attend scheduled sound checks. BCTC will provide full schedule and sound check details closer to the event.
BC Touring Council reserves the right to use showcasing artists’ submitted images and content for the promotion of Pacific Contact.
Artists are not permitted to showcase in two concurrent years.
REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATIONS:
- Fee: Application to showcase is a $50 (plus GST) non-refundable fee for each application, and this year, for the first time, this fee will also cover the self representing artists BCTC membership fee.
- Support Materials: The application form has mandatory fields that request links to artist video, audio (for musicians), technical needs, and bio/promo information. All showcase applicants must supply support materials electronically. LINKS ONLY. Support materials must be current (up-to-date) and of the highest quality. Support materials must be included with application.
- Membership: Membership to BCTC for self representing artists is INCLUDED in fee payment section of the application.
- Payment Methods: We ONLY accept PayPal payments (credit card, debit, PayPal) in the application.
- Note: Artists who showcased at Pacific Contact within the last year (2022) are ineligible to apply to showcase at 2023 Pacific Contact.
- Deadline: Friday, August 19, 2022.
- No email: attachments or dropbox links. No mail in.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU APPLY:
- You will receive notification of payment from PayPal
- You will receive an email copy of your completed application
- Your application will be checked to ensure that it is complete and then processed
- After the application deadline, your application will be reviewed by a Showcase Selection Committee (presenters, artists and performing arts professionals)
- You will be notified of the outcome of your application in October 2022
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU ARE ACCEPTED TO SHOWCASE:
- You are required to register and/or be represented as a Artist/Agent/General Delegate (TYPE 1) at Pacific Contact 2023, April 12-15. Online Registration opens January 2023.
- You are required to register and pay to attend Pacific Contact for at least the day of their showcase, April 12-15, 2023.
- You are required to respond to all requests for information, forms etc in a timely and professional manner.
- You are required to be available to showcase on any days of the conference – April 13, 14 and 15 2023. No exceptions.
